Original Drawing from 1997. Charcoal, pen and ink on BFK Rives.

Hand stitched embroidery on custom printed cotton fabric. This new piece is based on a charcoal, pen and ink drawing that was created in 1997 as a undergrad at Michigan State University. Based on microscopic images of the cellular structures of plants.

Today was a rain day at work so I had extra time to do a little more sewing. Got it all ironed out and edges sewn and delivered to Art Express for framing.

Not much stitching done today but I did get the first batch of 2"x 2" cards ordered. Headed off to see the Giants play the Padres tonight!

This is the frame that I have chosen for the piece. It has a little band of texture that brings out the other deep grays in the piece. Not sure about the white mat yet. Started adding some light mocha brown to the mix.

It has been a family filled week leading up to my sister's wedding this coming Saturday. My cousin Angie lives on her sailboat in Richmond and we got to help sail her boat across the bay to Coyote Point. Sailed by Alcatraz, Angel Island, Treasure Island and got to sail under the Bay Bridge. Took the BART back to the city. Got a lot of stitching done during the sail and on the BART ride back to the city!

ArtPrize Count Down - days 27- 17

Way behind on publishing my progress, but have extremely good excuses. Went to Las Vegas last weekend for my little sister's bachelorette. Currently in San Francisco for her wedding next Saturday. Have been stitching like mad on the flights out here.

ArtPrize Fabric

Finally got the custom fabric ordered for ArtPrize. Should be here by Thursday and I can start embroidering like crazy.

Description of work: These images are inspired by a body of work that was started ten years ago as an undergraduate in the Department of Art at Michigan State University. By looking at cellular structures and examining plant life at its most basic form, this work becomes a brief snapshot of chaotic events that are the construct of everyday life.



By digitizing elements of pictures created a decade ago, I am able to design new compositions utilizing PhotoShop. This new image is printed on cotton fabric by a large-format digital textile inkjet printer. The pieces are then re-worked with traditional stitches using embroidery floss.

This body of work will consist of a large central framed image of approximately 3' by 3.5' surrounded by four to six smaller framed pieces that become microscopic studies of the larger piece.
